Contract Manager

REPORTING TO: Landscape Construction Managing Director
PRIME JOB PURPOSE: Effectively manage all Construction contracts under your control in the Division.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To have a positive, pro-active approach with a high standard of customer service
  • To manage all contracts under your control in a profitable manner
  • To work closely with Managing Director to ensure both tendered margins and delivered margins meet expectations
  • To employ, lead, support and motivate supervisors and operatives to establish strong operating teams across the division, conducting yourself always in a polite and professional manner.
  • To develop strong, long-term relationships with clients, QSs, Contract Administrators and suppliers.
  • To maintain the company values and their approach to contracting, implementing agreed business plan strategies.
  • Enthusiastic, positive and a team player attitude
  • To ensure that company Health & Safety procedures are applied, keeping the Managing Director advised of any significant issues.
  • To keep Managing Director informed of significant operational issues as they arise.
  • To understand and implement the Group Values as described in the staff hand book
  • Maintain daily records and holiday bookings in a timely fashion.
  • To ensure that vehicle logs are returned on a monthly basis in order to abide by the Group vehicle drivers policy handbook.


MAIN TASKS

  • Write and issue method statements and H&S plans, using central Risk Assessment compliance library. Review, amend and reissue according to client feedback and changing site conditions.
  • Attend project handovers from the Estimating team, reviewing Tender allowances and cost opportunities.
  • Organisation of staff, subcontractors and material resources for contracts on a day to day basis.
  • Carry out and record Site inductions and site QHSE inspections.
  • Provide Quality control/technical support for both site staff and client teams as required, ensuring high levels of quality and workmanship are maintained to specification.
  • Attend Site meetings/client and landscape architect liaison.
  • Interpreting and communicating to site staff Bill of Quantities /spec and drawings
  • Monitoring and understanding the implications of contract variations, instructions, drawing revisions compared to the BOQ and/or scope of work understanding our rights and responsibilities under each form of contract.
  • Report to MD all financial implications arising from above.
  • Take responsibility for setting cost budgets and working to meet the agreed GP target for each individual contract.
  • Produce and issue monthly valuations for works complete, following up certification and invoicing process, and ensuring payments are received and chased as required.
  • Being aware of the value of each contract, accurately pricing extras and variations within contract works.
  • Carry out Staff appraisals and encourage/assist with their training and development.
  • Support the MD in the implementation of Group procedures in line with the companies ISO, Quality and Environmental accreditations.
  • Deputise for MD in his absence at team and/or project meetings.
  • Keep MD informed of significant issues as they arise.
