Job Function:

To develop, implement and maintain a co-ordinated National Education and Careers Outreach Programme, that seeks to encourage interested parties, in developing an understanding, interest, and enjoyment of the associationâ??s educational projects and career campaigns e.g. GoLandscape, to students, pupils, parents, teachers and career changers interested in a career in the Landscape industry. To contribute to creating training and development programmes both internally and externally with the association.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To organise, plan and deliver an effective GoLandscape campaign programme for pupils, teachers, Careers Advisors, and others, raising an awareness of careers in the landscape industry
  • To keep abreast of government policy on education and skills training and to ensure the associations programme meets industry needs whilst considering the governments skills and education agenda
  • To ensure that the GoLandscape campaign programme is well publicised and is appealing to a wide and diverse range of schools, colleges, parents, teachers and career changers
  • To manage and respond efficiently to any communication relating to the associationâ??s educational programmes, disseminating information to relevant volunteers/ambassadors and staff
  • To contribute to the review and development of existing and new Horticulture and Landscaping courses and qualifications, including the Employer Trailblazer Apprenticeship ongoing developments and the BALI Academy
  • To recruit, support and manage the school/college ambassador training, communication and DBS checking where required
  • To collaborate and maintain close links with organisations and stakeholders involved with landscaping and horticulture in a schoolâ??s context
  • To maintain close links with school and college careers advice services and to produce reports and statistics as required
  • To produce promotional and educational literature/publications and/or resources for schools/colleges, relating to landscaping careers and education
  • To liaise with staff and ambassadors throughout the association to ensure cooperation and smooth communication of information and provide consultation on relevant matters requiring education experience and judgement
  • To keep up to date with industry curriculum developments, ensuring that education resources are relevant to industry needs and national standards
  • To support and advise members of the association regarding their options for training, education, and apprenticeships
  • Work to and within agreed budgets and contribute to the budget development process
  • Be able to work flexibly and independently to meet deadlines
  • Collate feedback and provide reports and presentations to the Chief Executive/BALI Board as required and reviews of the BALI educational programmes/campaigns
  • To adhere to current Health & Safety legislation and best practice in accordance with the Associationâ??s Health and Safety Policy Statement.
  • Responsibility for ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their staff and volunteers; and that the activities for which they are responsible do not expose anyone to risks to their health or safety. Specific areas of responsibility include: ensuring staff and volunteers are adequately supervised, trained and provided with adequate instruction and information to carry out their work safely; ensuring that the associations procedures are followed and risk assessments are carried out, procedures are in place to deal with emergencies.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Experience

Essential
 

  • Excellent and demonstrable track record of education provision in a landscaping and                horticulture context
  • Understanding of horticulture and landscape education syllabuses
  • Effective management of staff & volunteers
  • Landscaping/horticulture qualifications

 

Highly desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent teaching qualifications
  • Landscaping experience
  • Education Officer experience
  • Demonstrable experience of classroom teaching to a range of ages

 

Skills and Ability

  • Clean driving licence
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Team player as well as self-motivated
  • Ability to work with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
